The article examines a male refugeeās experience in the United States while engaged in English language learning, and at high school, home, and work. The authors explore the student's participation in literacy events bearing in mind his identity as a Yezidi Kurdish refugee. Focusing on the importance of teaching styles and content used in reading instruction, the authors explore the student's difficulty in transferring literacy learning to his work world, as well as the effects of his preoccupation with his history and economic status on his educational progress. |
