Test Description	The CWCA was developed to offer teachers an integrated process for creating and assessing writing tasks in order to provide tangible indicators of increases in student writing competency. The test provides learners with numerous opportunities to develop their writing as they integrate, apply, and extend their language in response to the demands of various tasks. The CWCA divides this language use into three major ranges: formulaic, created, and planned language. Students produce a writing sample following the given prompt. The prompts must be created based on the following format: context, text, function, and content.

Test Development and Technical Information	The test was developed by a committee of practicing secondary and post-secondary language educators. It was pilot tested throughout California in language courses. It has been tested for validity and reliability on a limited basis. A more extensive process is planned.
