Name of Test X_Lex v2.05 Languages English, French, Portuguese, Spanish, Swedish Test Description X_Lex is a YES/NO vocabulary test that runs under Windows. It replaces an earlier version called Llex. X_LEX prompts the user with on-screen instructions and then displays a set of test items one at a time. For each item, users decide whether or not they know what the word means, and answer YES or NO. The complete test consists of 300 items, and a different selection is chosen each time the test is run. X_Lex tests words at five different frequency levels. It also uses pseudo-words, which conform to the phonological and orthographic conventions of the target language. The inclusion of imaginary words serves as a check on guessing or lying by the testees. X_Lex generates a profile of the testee's vocabulary knowledge in the target language. This work suggests that the use of pseudowords words may be unnecessary if the source files are structured using a Rasch analysis of items. X_Lex 2.05 is written in Delphi and runs under Windows. Comments X_Lex is available free to bona fide researchers.
