Test Description	The ACTFL K-12 OPIc was developed specifically to assess interpersonal speaking proficiency for elementary, middle, and high school students. Delivered on-demand via the internet, the K-12 OPIc uses simplified instructions and a helpful avatar, who guides students through the assessment. A background survey generates a test with prompts customized to the interests of the student. The ACTFL K-12 OPIc is offered in two testing formats, designed to thoroughly explore proficiency from Novice Low through Intermediate High, in an age appropriate, low anxiety format. ACTFL K-12 OPIcs are used for a variety of purposes, including student progress; placement, formative and diagnostic information; goal setting; program performance and exit requirements. All tests are rated exclusively by ACTFL Certified OPIc Raters, according to the ACTFL Proficiency Guidelines (Revised 2012).

Test Format	The student engages in a proficiency interview with a virtual avatar and student responses are recorded. The completed test is automatically uploaded to LTI’s secure system at the end of the test. The K-12 OPIc is available in two formats: K-12 OPIc Novice, which explores proficiency from Novice Low to Intermediate Low, and K-12 OPIc Intermediate, which focuses on proficiency from Novice High to Intermediate High.

Scoring Method	Rated by ACTFL Certified OPIc Raters

Scoring Process	The OPIc is a criterion-referenced assessment. An ACTFL Certified OPIc Rater compares the candidate's recorded responses to rating criteria, as described in the ACTFL Proficiency Guidelines (Revised 2012).

Results Reported	The K-12 OPIc offers ratings on the ACTFL Scale, from Novice Low through Intermediate High.
