Test Description	The ACTFL Assessment of Performance toward Proficiency in Languages (AAPPL) is a performance and proficiency assessments of standards-based language learning across the three modes of communication (interpersonal, presentational, and interpretive) as defined by the World-Readiness Standards for Language Learning. The AAPPL assesses interpersonal listening and speaking, presentational writing, interpretive reading, and interpretive listening. The test is delivered over the internet, under proctored conditions. It provides students the opportunity to engage with age-appropriate content on topics of personal, social, and academic relevance, creating an authentic experience for them.

Scoring Method	Rated by ACTFL Certified OPIc Raters

Scoring Process	An ACTFL Certified AAPPL Rater compares the candidate's recorded and written responses to rating criteria, as described in the ACTFL Proficiency Guidelines 2012. The interpretive reading and listening sections are computer scored.

Results Reported	The AAPPL offers ratings on the ACTFL Scale, from Novice Low through Advance Low.

Comments	There are three major forms of the AAPPL that assess different grade levels and ranges of language ability. Forms A and B are for students in grades 5-12, while Form E assesses the interpersonal listening and speaking mode in English, Chinese Madarin, French, and Spanish and includes age-appropriate content for learners in grades 3 and 4. Forms A and E target the Novice to Intermediate ranges. Form B is appropriate for students in the Intermediate to Advanced ranges.
