Test Description	Avant STAMP 4S (4 Skills) is web-based, computer-adaptive assessment appropriate for purposes of placement, progress monitoring, and program review. The realia-based Avant STAMP test measures interpretational and presentational modes including Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking proficiencies. Benchmark levels are based on the ACTFL Proficiency Guidelines and measure from Novice-Low through Advanced. Avant STAMP 4S (Grades 7-Adult) is available in Arabic, English, French, German, Hebrew, Hindi, Italian, Japanese, Mandarin (Simplified and Traditional), Polish, Portuguese (Brazilian), Russian and Spanish. Avant STAMP is a textbook independent test and is age-appropriate for grades 3 through 16. Avant STAMP is also available in STAMPe with age-appropriate content for elementary learners (ages 12 and younger). Avant STAMP 4S is used at the elementary, middle, high school and college levels in 50 states. In addition to district-level adoptions around the country, STAMP has been used by State Departments of Education, institutes of higher education, and DoDEA (Department of Defense Education Activity) schools throughout the world. Avant STAMP was initially developed by CASLS, the Center for Applied Second Language Studies, and test items were statistically validated through field testing on over 30,000 students Avant STAMP 4S is recognized by ACTFL, NABE, TESOL and NCSSFL as an appropriate assessment for the Seal of Biliteracy.

Test Development and Technical Information	A final version of the test was field tested with 30,000 students across the United States and piloted from 1999-2002 by the Center for Applied Second Language Studies (CASLS) - http://casls.uoregon.edu. The test has been in regular use since 2002. High speed Internet connection is required.

Comments	Avant STAMP 4S and 4Se can be delivered anytime, anywhere with a web-browser, in a proctored environment. Proctor may be any responsible adult who has read and agrees to follow the proctoring instructions.
