Purposes and goals of the program:
Baltic Lithuanian School works to foster young American Lithuanians’ love for the Lithuanian language, traditions and culture. Baltic Lithuanian School provides students with an opportunity to learn and maintain the Lithuanian language and culture through play, art, song, grammar, celebration of traditions, friendships with local community members, travel and participation in Lithuanian festivals. The school provides parents and the rest of Charlotte, NC Lithuanian Community with networking and gathering opportunities. The school works to preserve Lithuanian as it is often said to be the most conservative living Indo-European language.
Program origin:
In 2013, the Lithuanian Heritage Saturday school as a community program was initiated by parents, immigrants from Lithuania to Charlotte, NC. They were proud of their Lithuanian roots and wanted to contribute to preservation of the Lithuanian culture and language. The parents were committed to the preservation of a Lithuanian identity for their children growing up in the US. With the help of Kazickas Family Foundation as well as Lithuanian Foundation, the school opened the doors in Fall of 2013.
Program funding:
The program is sponsored by the Kazickas Family Foundation ( www.kff.lt ).

Additional funding comes from tuition, the Lithuanian Foundation of Chicago,

IL ( http://www.lithuanianfoundation.org), local businesses of Charlotte, NC, and fundraising (Yard sales and special events).
