Purposes and goals of the program:
The Bi-Cultural Day School (BCDS) language program teaches Biblical and Modern Hebrew to children from pre-K through eighth grade. BCDS’s first through fifth grade instructional program uses TaL AM’s Hebrew & Heritage Curriculum Development with Biblical Hebrew instruction simultaneously (http://www.talam.org/ ). BCDS uses the NETA Hebrew immersion program for Israeli Hebrew language acquisition (http://netahebrew.com/ ) parallel with Biblical Hebrew traditional religious studies for grades six through eight.  (http://www.bcds.org/Curriculum%20Guides/JS%20Curriculum%20Guides/8th%20Grade%20Jewish%20Studies%202010_11.pdf ). Students read, write, listen, and converse in Hebrew with collaborative exercises such as ordering food, describing their environment, and conducting an interview. Students with high Hebrew language skills may earn advance placement credits toward college. The purpose and goals of BCDS are to foster an encompassing knowledge of Judaism through moral instruction (halaha), excellent secular instruction, and fostering commitment to the people and the land of Israel.
