Purposes and goals of the program:
The Melvin J. Berman Hebrew Academy (MJBHA) language program teaches Biblical and Modern Hebrew language from pre-K through high school. MJBHA also includes topics in linguistics such as, Semantics, Syntax, Morphology, History of Language, and Dictionary Use (http://www.mjbha.org/Academics/Middle_School/Curriculum/Judaic_Studies/NETA.cfm ). The purpose and goals of MJBHA Orthodox Day School are to foster an encompassing knowledge of Judaism through moral instruction (halaha), excellent secular instruction, and fostering commitment to the people and land of Israel.  Bridging the comradeship with Israel and Israelis is accomplished through Modern Hebrew courses. MJBHA uses the NETA Hebrew immersion program for Israeli Hebrew language acquisition (http://netahebrew.com/ ). Students read, write, listen, and converse in Hebrew with collaborative exercises such as ordering food, describing their environment, and conducting an interview. Students with high Hebrew language skills may earn advance placement credits toward college.
